Guardians, there is so much you can do as your child's first and most important teacher. Reading to your child, or allowing your child to read to you, only 15 minutes a day will greatly influence all areas of their academics. Reading with your child is not only a time to develop literacy skills, but it is also a time to bond and develop your child's love for reading.

This is a broad term used to describe the skill set of being able to hear sounds that make up words.

PhonicsPhonics are the link between letters and their sounds.

FluencyFluency is the ability to read text quickly, accurately, and with expression.

VocabularyVocabulary is the amount of words a person knows how to use accurately.

Oral LanguageOral language is using spoken words to express feelings, emotions, and ideas. When children hear multiple words at home, they tend to hold bigger vocabularies in school.

ComprehensionComprehension is the ability to understand what is being read or said. Comprehension is the reason for reading.
